‘PAARS’ (or ‘Purple’) was the first project Hanne designed at their study ‘Interactive Performance Design’, together with Silvy Levens. PAARS is a performative installation in which participants, through wearing headphones with music and live directions, are invited into moving together.
Participants are both audience and co-creator as they put on a set of headphones. An ever-changing scape of music and sound creates a rhythm and melody to start moving to. Silvy and Hanne give live directions which are directly streamed to the participants’ headphones. These range from ‘write your name in the air with your foot’, to ‘slowly seek contact with the other participants’ or even ‘close your eyes and stand still’.
Participants are free to move in any way they see fit- and the audience doesn’t have a clue about the directions they receive.
Participants note that taking part is fun, surprising and sometimes even freeing. People who wouldn’t otherwise dare to move in front of an audience, are gently guided into it and feel empowered afterwards.
